Welcome to Good Grief Rochester
Your Journey Towards Healing Begins Right Here
Our Mission is to give grief a voice.
About Our Grief Support Sessions
At Good Grief Rochester, we aim to create a compassionate and safe environment where individuals can find solace and understanding. Our grief support sessions are led by Certified Grief Counselor and author, Ms. Cheri A. Copie, RN, BSN, MS. Each 90-minute session offers a space for emotional connection and practical coping tools. Topics covered include Understanding Grief, The Grief Journey, and Living Forward with Grief in your new normal. The is a nominal registration fee of $15 to help cover the costs of facilities, printing, and supplies. (Please note that we do NOT charge for the counselor’s time. This is a gift to help those simply struggling).
Our sessions are specifically designed for adults who have experienced a loss within the past several years because we explain the “newness” of the grief journey & the trauma they may be feeling. Loss can be death, a crisis diagnosis, divorce/ separation, estrangement, role function, etc. Anyone grieving or trying to support someone grieving is encouraged to join!
Meetings are held in the evenings, every week, in Webster, NY (exact location disclosed after pre-registration to protect the privacy of the participants). We offer a supportive community that fosters healing and growth. Pre-registration is required to ensure appropriate facilities and group size & structure, ensuring each participant receives the attention and support they need.
We are excited to announce that our first summer series began in May, and it’s been well-received! You can join a session ANY time that you are ready. [We plan to offer additional sessions and are considering a reduced four-week topic-centric commitment with each session lasting possibly two hours]. Just because the topics end, we will develop more! We constantly ask our participants about what they want to learn more of and it is presented next!
Our format is to have a bit of voluntary open sharing followed by a brief lecture on best practices for those grieving. Questions are always integrated to drive the direction of what the group might need. Then we use 2/3 of the time in group sharing (small and large) followed by identification of what each individual wants to work on for that following week. As you can probably decipher, the material is predominantly led by the participants. If you’re interested, please pre-register so we can reach out to you to confirm your availability for dates, times, and location.
“I understand that it can be intimidating to trust people you don’t know as you navigate this journey. However, we are all on the same path and truly do understand your experiences. There’s no judgment here, no “you should” statements, and no “woulda-coulda-shoulda” regrets. We are here to walk alongside you, offering support, insight, and perspective. The new normal can feel overwhelming, but together, we can help you reach your goals.” Cheri A. Copie
