Autopsy Review Services for Family

Autopsy Report Review Service

Compassionate Guidance from a Certified Grief Counselor & Multi-State Registered Nurse

About This Service

Receiving an autopsy report can be overwhelming. These documents are written in complex medical and legal language — and reading them during grief can feel confusing, isolating, and painful.

Good Grief Rochester offers a private, compassionate session in which Cheri A. Copie, RN, BSN, MS, CHC/CGC — a Registered Nurse and Certified Grief Counselor — reviews your loved one’s autopsy report with you and translates the findings into plain, understandable language.

This service is not a medical consultation or second opinion. It is a supported health literacy and grief accompaniment experience — helping you understand what happened, ask meaningful questions, and move forward with greater clarity.

What Is Included

  • A private 60–90 minute session (in person or via secure video)
  • Plain-language walkthrough of all major report sections: gross findings, microscopic results, toxicology, and cause and manner of death
  • Time for your questions in a calm, unhurried setting
  • A written plain-language summary you can keep and share with family
  • Referrals to appropriate resources if clinical questions arise that require the Medical Examiner’s office or a physician

Important Clarifications

This service is not provided by Good Grief Rochester, Inc., a NYS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is provided by its Founder, Cheri A. Copie BSN. She will examine the autopsy report and police report if available, to then summarize in “lay language” to gain insight on what important details should be understood by the family. In no way does this constitute the practice of medicine, provide a clinical second opinion, or offer a legal assessment of cause or manner of death. The purpose of this service is simply to provide clarity for what the evidence shows from your loved ones report. Hopefully it can provide insight, understanding and a connecting of any dots. Questions requiring medical or legal expertise will be referred to the appropriate professional.
